The Colorado Springs event alongside fellow Ryanverse author Ward Larsen looks like a standout evening for aviation and thriller fans. Stewart noted that additional dates and locations will be added through his social media accounts as the tour progresses.

A Quiet Layover at Tailhook

One of the best moments in the newsletter was Stewart’s nod to his own fiction. During an overnight layover in Reno, Nevada, he happened to land right in the middle of the annual Tailhook Association symposium.

Readers of his third novel, Bogey Spades, will remember that the convention was the setting for a chaotic attack involving protagonist Colt Bancroft. Fortunately, Stewart’s actual weekend was far more relaxing. He shared photos with former fighter pilot and fellow novelist Kevin Miller, before catching up with former instructors, students, and Navy shipmates.

As always, Stewart rounded out his dispatch with personal recommendations, offering readers a look at what keeps him entertained during his downtime:

• Reading: The Ghost City by Ryan Pote. Stewart gave high marks to this sophomore release from his friend and fellow former Navy helicopter pilot. Combining an ancient subterranean city beneath Antarctic ice with long-forgotten technology, it sounds like an easy pick for fans of action and speculative thrillers. Stewart admitted he wished he had picked it up sooner.
• Watching: Lioness Season 3. Catching up on episodes while traveling, Stewart praised Taylor Sheridan’s writing, noting that the series succeeds because the character work and emotional weight stand out well above routine tactical shootouts. I’m in total agreement, although haven’t yet found the time to dive into season 3.
• Listening: Jack Johnson. Stewart mentioned being a long-time listener since Johnson’s appearance in the 1994 surf documentary The Endless Summer II. He recently caught Johnson live in Dallas alongside his wife and close friends, singling out “Holes to Heaven” as the standout track of the evening.
