There were two things I liked most about this book. Firstly, the sheer terror of sleeper agents being activated in some of the most deep cover situations and then causing carnage. The writing was so great that I could see it all playing out so vividly in my mind. It was an opening salvo that totally upsets the status quo and leaves you uncertain about every character’s true purpose and intention.

The second thing I really enjoyed was the introduction of Veronica “Ronnie” Garcia. She was in the midst of one of these sleeper agent scenes at CIA headquarters in Langley. Her handling of that situation catapulted her to the forefront an into a partnership with Jericho Quinn that takes them all the way to Kandahar. Despite Quinn’s clear intentions to reunite with his ex-wife, the chemistry between him and Garcia was off the charts.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and didn’t mind the more minor part that Thibodaux played. I’m excited to see whether Garcia remains in the picture. She certainly has the guts and head about her to remain a formidable character. As soon as I can, I’ll be picking up the next book in the series, State of Emergency.
