I’ve once again found myself enjoying the next book in the Arliss Cutter series. It didn’t quite hit my sweet spot like the last one did. But that was only because this involved a greater ensemble of characters and took place in less isolated environments. Compared to the isolation of Stone Cross, the setting was positively metropolitan.

The core set of characters were back and I enjoyed getting to know them more. There was more to learn about Cutter’s past and why he is the way that he is. I enjoyed seeing how the relationship with his brother’s widow developed. On the face of it, the idea of them becoming an item seems wrong. However, there is such a backstory and you can’t help but admire the quality of Cutter’s character, for how he moved to Alaska to support his brother’s widow.

The main plot failed to disappoint. And again, I’m learning about Alaskan culture. Marc Cameron is on to a winner with this series. Next in the series is Cold Snap, and it will be cracked open pretty soon!
