This was the follow up novel to Armored, the second in the Josh Duffy series, from Mark Greaney – author of the Grey Man and Jack Ryan series.

I remember really enjoying the first book in this series. It was a refreshing take from this author. It was more family focused, the struggle of Josh Duffy to provide for his family, having suffered an injury which saw him in need of a prosthetic leg, and meaning that he wasn’t able to take work as a private contractor. Unless it was with the most shady outfit out there.

In Sentinel he’s moved on a little, but the family focus is still there. He’s now got a respectable job working diplomatic security for the State Department. After moving to Ghana in Africa, he gets caught up in an attempted coup. He must fight his way out of that, save the ambassador, rescue his children and stop the coup.

This was another solid entry from Mark Greaney. I’d have liked to have seen more action at the end as battles raged across the city. But overall, it was credible and enjoyable. I will be reading the next instalment.
