A Russian plot to seize the Panama Canal plunges President Jack Ryan into a desperate fight for his life.

Marc Cameron is the author of the Arliss Cutter, and Jericho Quinn series. Tom Clancy Command and Control is his seventh and final entry into the Jack Ryan series.

The Ryanverse series is now more than thirty books deep when considering both the Jack Ryan series, Jack Ryan Jr series, Campus series, and the John Clark series as one. Which they really are.

And Jack Ryan Sr. has risen from history professor, through the ranks of the CIA, to be president. Now in his third term, the first having been due to him taking up the role after the President and entire Congress were wiped out in an attack.

President Ryan has been through it all, and now gets caught up in a coup in Panama, his own life on the line. He’s no stranger to this, having been through similar in Mexico, and Tokyo, and fairly recently seeing his wife abducted.

There was quite the build up, which wasn’t so bad, but it did lead to a several gripping chapters where I wasn’t sure what was going to happen. I don’t want to give any spoilers but let me say this. As much as we love characters and want them to go on forever – particularly if they are the central character that the series is based around – it can be difficult to see the characters dragged out forever, rather than meeting a fitting end.

Now, as I read every book in this series, I wonder how will things end for President Ryan. Will he quietly serve out his term and retire. Will he go out with a bang, some Tony Stark level of ultimate sacrifice for the country, for his son, or for the Campus?

It’s enough to say this series will continue, and that I wasn’t disappointed. But I’m still looking forward to the next evolution of the series. Perhaps something as pivotal as was the creation of the Campus.
